It's SOOO easy to make healthier choices that I've lost 4.9 pounds since Wednesday. Now, I know that is not normally a healthy amount to lose but considering my size and that sugar cookie diet in the month of December, I think it's just right.
Day three of my full load of a four class quarter. So far, I am juggling all four classes with ease. There is a benefit of having John working nights. There is less distraction from my homework and I am more active at night doing odd and ends around the house, homework, chatting with friends with very little TV/Couch time. I enjoy that. Not that I don't enjoy spending time with the hubby but his favorite thing to do every night is watch TV. So hopefully by the time he goes to days, I will be completely out of that habit and will encourage him to be more active at night too. It will be Spring when that happens.
I have to tell you I love peanut butter and my new favorite breakfast is Quaker oats oatmeal (not from the packet) and then I add in a tablespoon of all natural peanut butter. D E V I N E.
I have been having turkey sandwiches on hoagie rolls for lunch with provolone, lettuce, tomato and avocado. Of course, a latte during the day but for dinner I thought I would swap out a home cooked meal with a smoothie. When I say smoothie I don't mean a skimpy one either.
It is about a 500 calorie smoothie when its all said and done but believe me, its all good for you calories. I start with a banana, an apple, two large hand fulls of spinach, 4 celery stalks, 2 Tablespoons flax seed (ground), 1/4 cup (raw instant oatmeal), and top it off with all natural peanut butter. 1-2 Tablespoons. Mix up and YUM!!!! Keeps me full and I like it. I have been doing good with not having dessert. This was a biggy for me.
I was thinking of going back to Weight Watchers but my husband pointed out that I am relying on someone or something else outside of myself to lose weight. I need to look within in. At first I was like, nooo I'm not. LOL but yea, he is right. When I lost over a hundred pounds a decade ago, I did not go to Weight Watchers or any other diet place. I did it on my own. So, for that - thank you babe. I need to look and rely within.
My friend Jes told me, if I fail to plan, I plan to fail. She also said to remember these words.
Discipline is remembering what you want.
So true.
Other than being bloated and PMSing... I am in a pretty good place. It is Friday & I only have two classes today. I grateful for the gift of good health that is keeping me alive. Thank you Jesus.
I am going to make 2013 the best year yet!
I'm OWT.

It's easy...
This is my new mantra "It's easy"
See, I figure the state of attitude is what makes something easy or hard. If I dreaded lets say doing dishes. Just absolutely loathed it... do you think I would have a good time when I did the dishes? No. What if I looked at it differently and said to myself..."Doing the dishes isn't so bad. My kitchen will look so much better. I am grateful that I am healthy enough to stand at the sink and do my dishes. I will crank my tunes and have deep thought time. I will be productive and invest in the cleanliness of my house." I know sounds kind of hokey but if I said these things over and over.... (the bad) or (the good stuff) which one would take over? I would essentially make my dish washing experience terrible if I constantly thought negatively about the chore.
All in all truth, I don't mind doing the dishes... I was just using this as an example. Just like walking or exercising... If I had self talk with myself or conversations with others how much I hated exercise I am guessing that I would dread to do it, while I was doing it I couldn't wait for it to be over and it would be a burden of a chore... However, what if I took a different approach and said, I am going to enjoy walking on my treadmill or doing my ball exercise. I am going to feel good and look great because of it. It's easy to do and I enjoy it. If I said this over and over and went in with a positive attitude and thought only positive thoughts while I was doing it.... I am betting my workouts would be more frequent, longer and meaningful. Verses dragging my feet and doing it because I had to instead of because I wanted to.
We can make things easy or hard. Ever see a child slouched down because they had to do a house chore or a task they didn't want to do? They moped and did it begrudedly. What if that child took the opposite opinion and just said OK, I have to do this, I am going to make the best out of it. I am helping my Mom out and afterwards I can play. Which experience would be better?
When I first started College I had self talk going on in my head on the first day. I can't do this, this is so stressful, I am dumb, on and on and on.... guess what I struggled and I didn't enjoy the experience. This year I went in the Fall quarter telling myself, this is going to be easy, I am going to enjoy it and I am going to get A's. Guess what? I did... all of the positive talk came true... just like all the negative self talk did the year before.
Even the Bible says "A man thinkith, therefor he is."
I think we forget and it's easy to bitch and moan and whine about what we need to do even though it's good for us. If we want the experience to be better, think better thoughts. It all starts with ourselves.
So this years approach to a healthy lifestyle that sticks is a positive one. It is so much easier than I expected to eat healthy and stay away from processed refined man made foods. I am craving micro nutrients. I enjoy working out. It makes me feel great. Getting rid of this weight is going to be easy.
How many times have you said to yourself, "It's not going to be easy?" STOP!!!! It is going to be easy.
If you want to renew your life, you must renew your mind first. Stop the negative, doubtful, fearful talk that starts in your head because let's face it, if its coming out of your mouth, it's what is in your heart and you are just fighting yourself against a losing battle. The choice is yours and life is truly what you make it.

America Start your....Diets
Wow, what a crazy year.
I have to say that this was thee most nerve wracking, unsettling, UP and Down years of my life. The pressure of College nearly cracked me in the first quarter and getting sick in the third quarter and missing school about gave me a nervous breakdown. You never know how strong you are until you have to endure it all. But really, how strong are you when you have to use vices that you depended on your entire life to get you through situations? Human strong I guess.
I wish better things for 2013. I am going into this New Year with a positive outlook, hope and dreams. Focusing on what I want to happen. These are not really New Years Resolutions but just general goals. I have always been a goal setter, I love to start a new task on a Monday. So it is only fitting for me to set new goals for a new year.
I wish I knew what I wrote down last year for my goal. I am trying to rack my brain. I don't think I made a list and I think it was pretty light. It wasn't like lose weight, or anything in the regards to physical improvement. Shoot, that is always on the list. Like I actually need to write that one down, right? I know.. Right!
So this year my goals are:
So, I need a plan. I am going to print out my list and frame it to remind me to do these things everyday. I will see it on somewhat of a daily basis and I will know if I have done these things or not.
So while this list is long, I don't find it daunting or unreasonable. As long as I remember what they all are by keeping a visual reminder I will stay on task.
I am not waiting for January 1st. I am starting right now, today. Saturday, December 29th, 2012
Why not end the year a success in hopes of starting the new year a winner.
I do hope to journal more. I get so busy with school and don't find the time like I should. However, with John working nights that will free up a lot of time for me to spend with guess who? Me! As long as my homework, housework, and bodywork are all done I should have some free "creative" time to unload my millions of random thoughts that pop in and out of this noggin.
Happy New Years to you and yours. May this year we all find beauty, love, health and peace.
Time is ticking, we mustn't take one single day for granted.
Best wishes to my reader. LOL

- Get A's in school.

- Find something beautiful everyday and take a picture of it.

So this is Christmas... & a Happy New Year.... (Love this song).
As the end of the year approaches, we (or rather I) reflect on all of the things I have done, didn't do and want to do it and so it can all be a bit overwhelming. I find that with time, the speed of each year rapidly passes by and that can only mean one thing; embrace every day. We are living on borrowed time and I kick myself in the shins for taking a single day for granted.
A lot has changed this year and there are more changes to come in the year to follow. I have one more full quarter of classes and then I will start my intern ship. I will have to get a part time job in April (Starbucks here I come). I wondered if I printed my resume on coffee bean stationery if that would be a bit much? With John's new job, the house will be empty during the night and this is a new change for me but am thankful for my friends that keep me company and include me in their lives.
I have big hopes and dreams for 2013 and I plan to pamper myself for sure by investing in my health, future and my family and friends. You wont find this girl sitting on the couch watching life pass her by, no, you will find her living life and laughing and by laughing I mean a lot. I count my blessings and thank the Lord above for all that He has given me.
Change is never easy, however, the exciting part of change is it never leaves us the same. The question asked is, does it change us for the better or the worse? I will do my best to make sure that it will always change me for the better. Losing my job a year and a half ago, changed me, for the better. I saw it as an opportunity to better myself and to make the best out of the situation. I followed my dream, to go back to School. Yay me!
I am mentally preparing myself for the year ahead and all the challenges it brings with it. I also look forward to the opportunities for it to help me grow into an even better person who achieves her dreams and chases after life with the passion that's inside her. Why am I talking in third person? I am and always will be goofy. I don't see that changing. Hope to write more now that I am on Christmas Break.
Take care Journal!

Day 2
Okay, so yesterday was not the best turn out food wise. Let's just focus on the positives.
I walked 3 miles. I drank 48 oz. of water and I didn't eat any ice cream or fast food.
The Volunteering went ok. I don't know if that is where I am to be, I didn't feel a magnetic pull to it as I so hoped I would. The BS was great, the work was nice, easy and theraputic. Will I go back? I havent decided. I might give it another go.
This morning I started my boot camp class. I was not sure what to expect. I was sweating like a you know what, and afterwards it was good. I was glad to meet everyone, who has lost 40 + pounds just in th 8 weeks. I am seriously considering dropping Weight Watchers (I already know what to eat) and signing up with this boot camp for on year.
I can either weigh in there once a week or I can schedule something with Helmi and go weigh in at her place once a week. I have to try something new, and I think I would get more out of this than I would weight watchers, if I want, I can actually go to TOPS (same concept as Weight Watchers, but it's $20 a year).
I am ready to get this weight OFF.
I am not going to lie, I am a little tired, but that is good. So As I sit here drinking my coffee out on my patio, listening to the birds sing, I am trying to muster up the energy to go and clean since the Gosh darn house fairie is another no show. I mean Really? Do I have to do everything.
Lunch with my friend Lynnell today!!! I am excited, haven't see her for about 3 months and I have missed her.
Goals for today - drink 100 oz.

clean house.
Laters, baby.

Day 1
The alarm rang at 5:30 and I got up, excited to start my exercising again. Changed clothes with one eye open and chugged down my coffee. My good and faithful friend Robin arrived and we set off on our 3 mile walk. Boy, am I a little out of shape. I could feel it. It was a beautiful morning, 60 degrees and with the exception of a few stray dogs, the walk was just what I needed to get back into my regiment.
Today is my first day to volunteer at Christ Kitchen. I am excited to at the opportunity to meet other woman, and to give back and contribute. My goal is to keep busy this Summer. Tomorrow I go with Pam to the U-district and attend a work out class from 6am to 7am. So, if I play my cards right, I should have not only social, but productive activities everyday of the week. Which, was my goal.
I have a new found hobby of feeding the birds that are in my back yard. Who would of ever thought that such pleasure would come from laying food and water out for God's creatures and watching them eat, bath and drink. I feel like a mother hen, I want to start singing the hills are alive and have them climb aboard my shoulder. I know, a little to much to ask, but one can dream.
If they don't kick me out sooner, I should be home around 1:00 and I want to get my laundry done and start deep cleaning, room by room.
I know I have only two readers, Thanks (you know who you are) but I am going to use this as my outlet to be accountable. I have not been on program since December 2011 and I am ready to embrace the healthy life style again.
Goals just for today:
Walk 3 miles - DONE.
Volunteer.
Drink 100 oz of water.
Eat 2 veggies and 1 fruit
Journal food (not exceeding points).
Make a list of household projects that I would like to accomplish this summer. (publish)
Make a Summer Bucket list. (publish)
This Summer is going to be meaningful.

97 Days to go!
School is out for Summer. This year so far has had it's ups and downs. I went through A&P class, which was severley challenging and also had my bouts with depression. I hope that is all behind me. I have 98 days of freedom. Freedom to do with as I choose.
My goal is to (starting tomorrow) lose as much weight as I can in 97 days. I envision myself 50 pounds lighter but I will take any loss that comes my way, but I am really shooting for 50. My goal is to work out 2 hours a day 5 days a week and do an activity type exercise twice a week (weekends).
I will be planning my menu's, posting my good healthy finds on my food blog.
Wish me luck.
Tomorrow' menu:
100 oz. Of water
3 mile walk
60 minute bike ride
1 cup Kashi, 1 cup milk, 1/2 cup blueberries and one string cheese.
Lunch (unknown)
Dinner Grilled Chicken breast, bbq asparagus, cottage cheese and zuchinni.

Inspired...
There are plenty of mornings that before my feet touch the ground I am planning my day. I am the most productive planner ever. However, I am not the biggest achiever when it comes to the follow through. I can write lists, I can day dream of completed projects, inside, outside and crafty wise. Oh, you want to know how to plan? I can help. Now, can someone help me with follow through?
Well I can't say that today was a total waste... I did get my morning work out in. I went to School, I did some things in the office, I made a smoothie, cleaned the kitchen and did my home work. I must admit with my big brown eyes that I didn't complete the outside projects that I had hoped to cross of my list nor the three loads of unforgiving laundry that keep accumulating in my basement.
Well, if I didn't do everything that was on my list, what did I do instead? I do believe that it is a great feeling to be productive and get the to-do's crossed off the lists that never stop growing; I also love to be inspired. Yes, that is right. Sometimes we need a day to look into things that inspire us; be it recipes, projects, pre planning to my planning. Today I made a new folder and I labeled it "To Do Recipes" and in this folder are recipes such as; Oatmeal Crumble Muffins, Mexican Rice, Cinnamon Toast Rolls and Almond -Crusted Chicken with Roasted Red Pepper Sauce. All recipes I stumbled upon while blog surfing. I am excited to try them. Just in time for camping.
I am always on the look out for new recipes and inventive ideas when it comes to anything domestic. The day isn't over yet, so maybe another 45 minutes on the hunt for more inspiration and then I must get another work out in and finish cleaning oh and why I suppose I had better start some laundry even if I don't fold it until tomorrow. Sometimes I wish I lived next door to Winnie The Pooh and could just respond to the laundry with an "Oh bother" and leave it for someone else to do.
Today has been a great day. Hope yours has been too.
Live your best life,
Mistie

Another day, a new chance, a new month, a new chapter...
Good Morning World AKA my oyster,
Today's blog will feature my will to live with purpose. : ) I have a little over one year left of School and possibly will be my last Summer totally free. What to do? What to do? Well, I can't just lay around in the sun all Summer, taking trips to the lake and watching soaps. While this would be fun, it also would be a little unfulfilled. So, I need to make good use of my time and energy and it starts today.
I haven't been in the right mind set about losing weight at all and frankly I need a mental break from even thinking about it. So, I think the break has been long enough and I truly feel ready to tackle the challenge before me and give it another shot at continuing my weight loss journey. So today I started with an hour on my bike and I will do another hour of cardio after I get back from School.
I also will try to keep active, there are plenty of things I want and need to accomplish around my house. We have a huge yard project that we are starting and there is a million and one things to do outside. If the weather permits, I will be getting the earth ready for my flowers.
I have decided I need to pay it forward more. Once a week, I want to make an attempt to pay it forward, do something nice for somebody, even if it's just putting a smile on their face. : ) Sometimes helping others is the most fulfilling thing we can do. Sure, it would be nice to have a million dollars and to play secret santa, but that isn't the case, right now, so I have to use the resources that God gave me. My time and the things that I do have.
I want to reinvent myself, my life and live with purpose... going day to day is not full filling me and here all this time I thought, well if I didn't work, I could do more things like that. Wrong - none of the things I had daydreamed of are actually happening. We have to take what we have, at that moment and do something for the greater of the good for someone else. No more excuses.
Today, the name I picked out of the hat was Justin Shogren. While it's his birthday today, I already will be going over, I've decided (cuz he is a funny kind of guy) that I would go to the store and buy the best looking steak there is and wrap it up as a birthday present : ) - So not sure that it counts, since I was going to do that anyways, but I am going to stick with that.
Today, I am going to plan a 7 day menu, pick up the office, do some laundry, work on my math, work out in the yard, get another hour of cardio in and stop by the store. Once all these things are done, I am going to work on making some cards and then possibly send a few people.
Well I must run, I have so much more to say..... but maybe later!

Purpose
I am hearing allot of talk about living life on purpose, with a purpose and having a passion for your purpose. The only thing I can think of right now that I would be passionate about is, being a Mom. I truly feel like I was destined to be a Mom. It's like I am not willing to accept the fact that I may not be a Mom. I won't accept it and I need to never give up on the dream of becoming one.
It makes me sad to not have a family. I don't talk about it allot but deep down inside to my core it really effects me. Some days more than others. It is all I have ever dreamed of since I was a little girl playing house "being the bossy Mamma" I truly feel like I don't have a family and the family that I do have, I don't feel like I belong. I feel so displaced sometimes and I just want to create my own family, I want three children. Two boys and a girl ok, two girls and a boy would be pretty awesome too.
I am so thankful for my husband and Mom. They feel like the only family I have. I really need to focus now on losing the rest of my weight. I don't know why I am holding myself back but I have got to push through, if losing weight is my only chance at getting pregnant than I have a big emotional hill to climb but the outcome will be great. I want children more than anything in life.
I need to have this be my anchor. I need to think of this and strive and believe that this will come true... The hole in my heart is so large and while I try to fill it with other things, it never works. If you are reading this, please keep me in your prayers to be a Mom.
Thanks!

Spring Break
Well it sounds funner than it actually is. Although, I can't lie and say that I haven't enjoyed sleeping in and doing whatever I've wanted to, because the truth is... I have loved every minute of it. I guess the thing I love the most is not having stress. It feels good to be stress free. Like any other goal oriented American, or maybe it's just what I do; I made a chore list of everything that I wanted to accomplish this week. However, it started out a Spring Cleaning list and ended up being a Summer list; meaning that I put far to many things on there to be done in one week.
So, today I am going to organize my sewing room. I have taken up a new craft; making cards. I love to send cards so why not make them. Of course, they are very generic, plain and boring. Just waiting to go to a stamping up class to learn how to make the cool ones. I am a total card. : ) heheh Love getting cards and love sending them as well.
I got up at 5:30 this morning and walked with Robin and then came home and biked for 20 minutes. Boy I feel out of shape. I need to kick it into high gear. Next week, I want to bike for an hour a day. Hopefully my legs can keep up. They get tired fast on a bike. That's OK, I worked up a great sweat. I know one of these days it's all going to click. The food, the work outs, the desire and focus to lose weight and I will start losing again. Until then; no panic, no stressy, no worry - just love and accept myself right where I am at. : )
Be present in the moment. Don't escape it.
Well I suppose I better get busy if I want to be productive. I want to clean the bathroom and do the kitchen floor today too. I am not gonna lie, laying on the couch watching chick flicks while I cross stitch sounds so much more appealing.
Hope whoever is reading this is having a wonderful day.

Career Change!
Well I am going to get in and see my counselor asap and see how soon I can switch my course. I have decided that I am going to change course and go to school to get my medical receptionist degree/certificate. I wont have pre-reqs done in enough time to do the Dental Assisting and in the chance the PTA program does not accept me, I can hopefully switch my classes immediately and be done by Dec 2012, and still have 5 months of unemployment to look for work. Say prayers that this all falls in line... : ) He is guiding my steps, I am just following.

Running away from yourself
Those words hit home with me when I heard Bob Harper tell Rosie O' D that on her show. Rosie was talking about how she hated her body and couldn't look at herself and Bob brought up such a good point and said, you can't be like that, because it will make you want to run away from yourself. Instead you need get naked, stand in front of the mirror and embrace yourself, love yourself right where you are at.
When we run from ourselves, we turn to, all sorts of things except ourselves and it only adds to further disappointment. It was an Ah Hah moment for me. I do that allot... I turn to food to run from myself... I find myself so stressed out lately with school that I have really turned to food for comfort and soothing. I am working out just not to gain weight and it's driving me crazy.
So today, I choose a different approach. I think I made up my mind that school is just not for me. I will finish out this year, and apply for the PTA program and then look for a job, and hopefully get a decent job. I feel more peace today about that decision... I am calm and just led by my heart. I will of course pray and take inventory of my emotions, situation, goals, etc., in the months to come but this is the direction that I am going.
My approach is to embrace myself. I am OK with who I am, where I am and I love myself right where I am. No more running, no more desperate attempts to have to lose all my weight overnight. It's holding me back and stressing out me out. So, I will make healthier choices and maybe set a goal to lose 1 lb. a week for right now and in a month or so, check in and see where I am at.
Losing weight is more than just sticking to a diet and working out; it is 90% emotional for me. I am really great at beating myself up while loving everyone else, and giving everyone else I love bounds of grace but for some odd reason, never extending that to myself, nor loving myself the way that I need to be loved. I feel in such a good place today. The stress of school is over, the stress of have to lose all my weight right now is over, the stress of being mad at myself for school and not losing weight is over.
Today, I have peace. I close my eyes and just embrace this moment and am thankful for it and all my blessings and the strength to carry on and to live to fight another day. I am not under the gun in any manner. I got to clean my house and start a craft project while drinking tea and having a cookie and it was nice. It was just what the doctor ordered.
I have a million creative ideas running through my head and all these crafts and projects I wanna start. I also want this Summer to be active; swimming, tennis, hikes, biking etc., I want to have a fantastic active summer. I want to work in my yard and make it cute, I want to grow a garden. I have some Easter projects I wanna make.
Tomorrow I am going to make Easter cookies and deliver to my loved ones to put a smile on their face. I cannot tell you enough how badly, I just want a job instead of going to school. I have never wanted a normal schedule with no pressure, stress, deadlines from four different classes all at once and make sure you memorize everything too.
Today I give myself the gift of peace and with that, I smile and soak up the rest that comes along with that. My mind is restful and there is a balance right now today.
Never run away from yourself, run towards yourself, you are worth it. We all are.

I think I almost did lose my mind.
Dear Blog,
I have missed you! It feels incredibly great to have spare time to write again. I even posted a food blog this morning, it was nothing fancy, yet it's still something that I love to do. I never knew that I require ME time to be happy? I am not complaining but the last sixty days have pushed me, stretched me and pulled me beyond my breaking limits. Those people that warned me about Anatomy and Physiology were not kidding when they said, "Say goodbye to your social life, free time, you time, any time!"
They weren't joking.
This was me this FALL 2011 quarter
Then I started Winter 2012 Quarter.
I learned more than 213 bones, grooves, fissures, muscles, reflexes, nerves, etc., Not to mention how all that works. I also learned that I don't have the coping tools to deal with stress. I don't think that I have ever had a more challenging task in my life, than finishing the AP course. Thank God for my exercise regiment or else I would probably be up 20 pounds. I found myself becoming overwhelmed with life, laundry and lessons. I thought I saw a light at the end of the tunnel but I was wrong. It was a train.
This was me this quarter
I know what you're thinking and you're right, I am not normally a negative person, I am chipper, upbeat and most of the time so darn happy I drive people nuts but this course took me down a 100 paces. There are no words that can articulate the experience that not only I had to endure but my lovely classmates as well. I was told before going into the class that people fail, people walk away, people start drinking (raises hand).
Sending out an SOS!
There is good news after all, and well I guess I should make this the turn around where I become positive again. I didn't fail this class, nor walk away and as a matter of fact I have a 89% in the class. This old lady who never went to high school had to work very hard for that grade. I also had two other classes. English was reading and writing intensive and math. While I love English, I was sad to say that I couldn't dedicate nearly as much time as I had hoped and would of loved to. I wasn't able to focus and study on math like I should of either, I hate math anyway. So that wasn't a heartbreak like the English was.
Boy oh boy, it was a roller coaster ride and with the exception of one last final, it is over. If I could spell hal a luya I would. But I can't, so you get the picture.
Spring break is approaching and I am excited to get my house back in order. Start the new season off with a less stressful schedule and get back to eating right, working out, drinking my water, planting flowers, sewing, making new recipes, blogging, cleaning, girls day's, pedicures (my poor tootsies), craft days, new projects. I am ready to get ME back. I am ready to get my social life back and start living life a little bit more. Although, I will still be in school, it will be a walk in the park compared to last quarter.
I want to start blogging again on a weekly basis and get my peace back! I am ready for peace. : ) Start loving life again. That's what Mistie is about; life and living every moment the best she can.
I bid you a good farewell until we meet again,
(ME)
Happy again!
IT'S OVER & I DID IT!

Roots
Today was a pretty blessed day. I got to have breakfast with my Step Mom, Jan. It was great to see her, it's only been 14 years since our brief sighting of one another at my Father's funeral in 1997. How I let this much time slip by without speaking to her just blows me away. We are family and for the first 12 years of my life she was a big part of my family.
Life has a way of forcing us to reflect on our past as we get older. We have brief moments that can turn into days of where we find ourselves doing nothing but looking back at our past. Feeling sad that things have changed so much, that people are far removed from our lives and some that have passed away. Depending on how far you want your mind to travel down that road, can lead you to a very sad place.
So I try not to wander to far. Sometimes it's to hard to come back to a place of contentment of not wanting to turn back the clock, say the things you should of and not saying the things that you regret. I wish that Jan and I would of never parted ways. I appreciatte her so much more now as an adult than I did when I was a kid. I think I always appreciatted her, I just didn't know what I had until it was to late.
Being a lost teenager you make mistakes and I guess that is why family loves us unconditional but can a step parent be equipped with that same unconditional love? I can only hope that this meeting today can turn into small steps of building a relationship, if she will have me. I guess I just want to reconnect with the woman whom I called my second Mom and get to know her again. No strings attached and maybe I can be of help to her the way she was to me when I was a small child.
I think we all search or yearn to find love, to be loved but sometimes its love of ourselves that is the most soothing. Without that, wont we keep searching for love and no matter how many people love us, it still wont feel like enough? I think that 2012 should be a journey of self discovery with me and Jesus. Find out who Mistie is and build a relationship with myself. Maybe then, I wont be searching to put the missing peices of my broken family together.
Jesus, can you fix me? LOL That's a big tall order there.
I am addicted to peace and that is it, that is what I am after in 2012 - Inner Peace!
Maybe the answer has been there all along, it was just right under my nose and I never saw it. Uhh, I will be a son of a gun. Maybe this entire time I just needed to start the journey to get to know and care for myself instead of always wanting love from others. Maybe I never fully have learned how to accept myself enough to warrant anyones love anyway.
How does one take care of themselves? I have always "loved" myself with giving into what ever desire I wanted, especially food. If I was upset, Food, stressed, food (sometimes cocktailes but then food afterwards), If I did something good, more food. Food, Food, Food. Always laying on the love in the form of food. How to I disassociatte comfort with food?
I will have to find comfort in other things. Like what? Jesus, writing a journal, exercise (Can one eventually find comfort in exercise?) call up a friend? Read? These all sound really great but will I follow through with these enough to turn them into a habit?
Stay tuned in my attempt to find out who I am, what else other than food can comfort me and how I find out how to truly love myself.
I am going to eat pizza now. That will help. NOT!

a year and still going
Boy, it sure has been awhile since I have opened up my weekly blog and spilled my thoughts over a hot cup of tea and a computer. So here I am, one week and a day away from starting my second quarter of College at SCC. Sometimes it feels like I am living a life, other than my own.
For the last 11 years I worked at the same company with the same people; it was safe, easy and on days that I didn't feel like it, I could do a good job with little or no effort at all. I am in a much different place in my life and it requires allot of effort. Effort to keep a positive outlook, effort to remain courageous, effort to remain diligent; on some days it takes all the effort I have to keep my momentum going.
I am not complaining. I truly believe that I am right where I need to be. Life is about change and this is an adjustment. 2011 has been a good year. I have laughed, loved, played, worked harder than I ever have in my life. The result, a 3.14 GPA and 60+ lbs. loss bragging rights.
As we near the corner to a new year, a fresh start and a positive outlook for a new beginning, I am most happy with the last year in passing. I don't have any regrets and I look forward to my accomplishments in the year to come.
I wish I could of had the wisdom I carry now when I was younger. How much easier life would be. How much pain I could of saved my heart and soul from. But, that's life and these are the lessons that make us who we are.
I look over entries of my diary's of past years; they all start with a desperate girl who wants to lose weight and makes claims that this is the year and nothing will stop her. Even the best intentions get some how get washed down the drain by the second week of January. Maybe the desperation required drastic changes that weren't so realistic.
I am glad this year, I did it slow. I am glad that I didn't think that I needed to lose all of my weight by tomorrow. I took one day at a time and most importantly, I allowed myself to make mistakes, to gain weight and not beat myself up. I looked at the journey as a life style, not a diet. I over indulged and loved every second of it. Yet, all the while knowing that this was a temporary moment of pleasure and that soon, the treadmill would be under my feet and the water sliding down my throat.
I haven't set any big new year resolutions this year. I guess I just want to allow myself the chance to live my life and to love and honour myself as never before. Taking care of me and that doesn't mean eating a bag of chips. Where is the love in that? Changing my relationship with food has and will always be a struggle for me. I am and will never give up on my adventure to beat food, or is it the challenge to beat myself. This tug of war battle that has went on with food for to many years to count will one day be in the past.
I know that if I do what I can do, then God will do what I can't. It is His promises that I stand on and knowing that faith without works is dead. So I can have all the faith in the world to overcome this battle, but I need to continue to put faith into work as I have done. I know He is proud of my victory this past year. I am proud of myself too. I would have to say that my biggest achievement was that no matter what the scale said at weight watchers, I still managed to pick myself up and try again and always knowing that tomorrow was a new day.
That is sometimes the only comfort we have isn't it? That tomorrow, his Mercy's are new everyday. It always amazes me that no matter how bad today is, that tomorrow could bring so much happiness. It is a wondrous thing and sometimes at the end of the day, it is only tomorrow that I have to be most grateful for.
I hope to really time manage my days better with my second quarter of school. It will require me to get up everyday at 4:45 am, drink or rather gulp down a strong cup of coffee, work out for an hour, hop in the shower, prepare a healthy breakfast and be out of the door by 6:55 am, off to School. I have made a schedule of house cleaning and the days that they are to be done. I will plan menus on Saturday or Sunday for the week, making crock pot meals on the days I am at school until 7pm.
I will have little time for socialization and this saddens me but I am doing something for myself right now. It feels weird to be selfish. I know the princess, right? Just because I am a princess doesn't mean that I don't think of others first, I love to give, love to spend time with my friends and most of all, love to do nice things for them. This all comes to a halt when I am in school. I am thankful for their understanding and support of my decision to go back to School.
I need to manage my time better... I need to make more time for Jesus, Even if its 30 minutes a day... something. I never thought that life would be so hectic while in School. Juggling three subjects, sometimes having a final, or exam on the same day.
I have a week left and I am going to enjoy my time off. I sit here now on my new lap top *thanks to my wonderful husband* in my kitchen, with a cup of cinnamon stick tea from Taste and Sea Ministries, listening to Positive Life Radio... my house is clean, and we have had a blessed Christmas having spent this Season with friends and family members on both sides, and we are so thankful to God for sending his son, and for his forgiveness. I know that Jesus didn't come and die so we could have religion, it was so we could have relationship and I find relief in knowing there is no perfection in that.
God is Good. Amen.
Here is rasing my glass to a wonderful year in 2012 and here is to another 60 pounds lost, a deeper walk with Jesus, a tight bond with all my friends and family and getting into the PTA program at the Falls. Getting PREGNANT. In Jesus Name.
Leap of Faith
It is less than a week before I head through those school doors to see what I really did sign up for. Making the decision to go to school was the easy part. The follow through is going to be one of the hardest steps in my life that I have ever taken. However, sometimes in our lives it is the road least traveled that is the more rewarding.
I only wonder... Can my brain retain all the new information?
I can only pray. Pray that God step in, because I cannot rely on myself to do this on my own. It would never work. I hate the "UNKNOWN" & the "WHAT IFS?" Right now my future is a big question mark. (((?))) What will my life be like in school? How much of a work load will it be? Will I make friends? Will my brain shut down or light up? Will I stressed out and overwhelmed? I guess the biggest question that haunts me is.... Can I do this? Can I really do this?
The answer I keep telling myself is YES. Mistie, this is your life long desire to get an education and make something of yourself. Yea, you wanted to be a physcologist, but that is not feasible (time and money wise).... I can do all things through Christ whom strengthens me. I am more worried about the Biology than anything but God settled my heart some on that, when my Pastor told me to find Jesus in the biology. That changed my perspective. I just keep telling myself "Trust God."
I had myself in such a state of panic of volunteering at St. Lukes... that is when I really started to doubt myself. I had no idea what to expect, walking into a room with medical people where I was the only one that knew nothing. Who was I kidding, I hadn't even started school yet? Would I remember how the wheelchair functions? Would the patients hate me? Would the PTA's like me?
Self Confidence is something that I lack, although better, still needs much improvement. When I was in Elementary, friends were in abundance, most of the girls I knew since Kindergarten, and everyone knew me for my personality and had no choice but to love me. When going into Jr. High, that was a fish tank for about 10 Elementary Schools. I felt out of my comfort zone because I was fat. When I was a kid, there were not allot of fat kids. It was out of the "norm" if you were big. I got teased allot, rocks thrown at me and while all the other girls were getting asked to the dance, making new friends, on sports teams, etc., I found myself making friends with the stoners. They accepted me, and they liked smoked. I liked to smoke cigarettes and pot. Whatever I could do to numb my pain.... I did. However, going down this road, lead me to drop out of school. I didn't fit in anyway. This did nothing for myself confidence.
So here I am 33 years old going back to school. Still fat. (and losing).... and all of those fears and feelings are rushing back in but with prayer the last few weeks, I must say those are easing up. Thank you God. This is going to be a BIG SKY HIGH LEAP of FAITH... for me.
Oh so anyways back to my St Luke's, I was stressed out, I found myself over eating out of FEAR. I am an emotional eater... and boy do I tend to shovel it in. I didn't even realise what I was doing...until the bag of chips was gone. I had tried to get back on program all week and was not successful, due to the fear. The day at come and it was my first day. I was trembling... My sweet husband calmed my nerves and I prayed all the way to the Hospital. Lord wash away my fear! Lord please be with me today. Protect me from mean people or any accidents that might happen. I got to the Hospital and clocked in, found my way to the TEAM ROOM in the CVA unit. I opened the door, and all eyes were on me. I quietly stepped in. The chitter chatter that once was, had evaporated. I said " Hi, I am Mistie. I am a shadow patient escort volunteer." I was asked to wait around until 1pm. Ten minutes? So, I stood while PTA's came and went. I was assigned to a younger gal who ended up being so nice and we saw 5 patients within the 3 hours and it was a pure delight. God had answered my prayers and this was confirmation that everything was going to be OK & I was going to like doing this work. I even found it a great opportunity to pray over every patient we saw. Of course, they didn't know I was praying for them... but God did and that was all that mattered.
So the next day was Weigh In, - I hadn't weighed in - for 3 Weeks.... we went camping twice and not healthy camping either, all the bad foods, and with my fear eating I was so sad to see a gain of 9.4 on that scale.... but I kept focusing on the fact, that at least I went to Weight Watchers, old Mistie would of ran.. and kept gaining.... I had made up my mind. I was going to be accountable. I didn't have a lets get this 9.4 off this week either. That is not how my brain works... So I just started slow. I may only lose 1 pound this week and I am OK with that... slow and easy does it for me... I cannot go all out, I will set myself up for failure. I am an emotional eater / food addict... and diets don't work with me... so just need to Eat when I am hungry. I am struggling with my water... exercise has been on point... but my veggies and water... those two key points need to be stepped up next week.
Yesterday it was not so easy. I was on a different floor. I walked into the TEAM ROOM only to find it empty. Two gals walked in and they just stared at me and then one gal introduced herself as a Aide, I wasn't even thinking so I said" Hi, I am a volunteer-." Cut off my the other gal looking at me asking "Your name is Volunteer?." with a disgusting look on her face. I finished my sentence and then ended with and my name is Mistie. The aide just said go to room 209, patients name is William and PTA is Ryan. - I thought to myself ... What? Why would you not take me down there and introduce me. This is going to be awkward and akward it was. I go to room 209, there is no PTA in the room, just a nice gentleman on a bed. I didn't enter the room. I didn't want Ryan to feel uncomfortable while I introduced myself to him in front of the patient. I saw a PTA heading towards the room, I asked "Are you Ryan?" He was. After I introduced myself, he had a puzzled look on his face, and just continued into the room. Greeted William, and in the between his conversation with the patient then said "So, Mistie I assume that I got an email that you were going to be with me today?" - I knew he hadn't. This aid had just made a last minute decision to put me with him. He got the patient ready for Gym and said to meet us there. I was to follow the PTA, as he and I walked down the Hall - I am pretty sure he thought I would not be able to keep up with his pace. Wrong. : ) I just biked 8 miles and walked one. LOL
On the way there, He wanted me to tell him about myself. I explained my goal for being there, the process I was in etc., He was for the most part semi friendly/annoyed/blunt. After the 90 minute session in the Gym was over, he quickly found someone else for me to follow. I was relieved. He was not my cup of tea. I was surprised he was in this field to be frank... I thought that most medical involved people were tender hearted, kind, wanted to help people, make a difference...? Anyways, it was a God send, I ended up with a guy name Dave and he was Awesome! He made me ask him questions, he talked to me the entire time, and actually taught me things. He said to be sure to ask for him next time I was on his floor. I will indeed David. He rocked.
I am just walking in faith. I know I can't do any of this alone.... God, is with me and He will see me through. I am so grateful for Him coming into my life. I never even would of attempted to do any of this, without his nudge that feels more like a push. When I lose all of my weight, even if it takes me 3 years which at that point, I will be graduating.... my self confidence in myself should be a tad bit better.
I only wonder... Can my brain retain all the new information?

Back to School, Back on Program
Well I can't say that this Summer has not been fun. I especially enjoyed it because I am thinner than I have been in years... and although I didn't really lose any weight this summer... I maintained with little ups and little downs.... I think there will be at least a 5-6 pound gain this Friday. I haven't been to weigh in - in over two weeks. So, time to pay the piper and wipe the slate clean.
I have exactly two weeks before school starts and I intend on using that time to get a head start on some Christmas Crafts and Home orginization. I have no clue what my life will be like once I have started school. I have heard that the homework and study time mixed with actual school classes is like working two full time jobs. This Christmas will just be simplified a touch. I have decided due to shortage of funds, I think on Christmas Eve we will go to the movies, maybe look at Christmas lights, etc., just not sure but it will be simple. I do know that.
So instead of going ALL or NOTHING now that I have been Off Program for two weeks, I decided instead of putting my body into shock, today I would focus on excercise ad getting my water and a few fruits and veggies in, tomorrow, I will work out twice, and do the same... but starting Friday - I will count my points, work out, drink water and tons of F&V!!!! That's my plan. Wanna lose the weight I gained plus some within two weeks, before school starts.
I go to S. Lukes today to get my badge, and a tour of the PT part of the hospital. Tomorrow at 1:00 PM I actually start my Shadow/Escorting. Then I will know, if I am REALLY made out for this profession. : )

Let's do this!
Back in the saddle again. I knew it would only take a few good days to get me back motivated and in the swing of things. I did pretty good with food/exercise the past few days and I feel great, feel thinner.. I love how it only takes a day or two to feel good. This is why I eat well and drink water, and don't eat after 7 and eat all my veggies etc., YEA!!!!!!!!
I set some new goals for myself. I want to be in a size 24 by Sept 21, a size 22 by OCT 21, a size 20 by turkey Day, a size 18 by New Years Eve!!!! Can I do it? Yes, I can.. gonna take some hard work, and some serious eating right and drinking water... sweat. Time to do this, what am I waiting for?
To get older? Is food really worth not achieving my goals? Is a moment of pleasure worth a life time of unhappiness? Nooo, it's not. I need to eat more fruit from heaven.... that's my goal this week. I made a really tasty Italian marinated veggies, I liked it... i also have been dipping veggies in hummus. So filling and Yum! I am all over it, but let's not get burned out ok Mistie?
I walked for 18 minutes on my treadmill today, did a little zumba and lifted weights. Yesterday I did zumba, Monday I walked 2.14 miles and Sunday morning I walked about 3 - no miles on Saturday. Tomorrow I am going to bike with Helmi - haven't exercised with her for like 3 weeks and then Friday, I will do zumba or bike after ww... and who knows what the scale will say since I was pretty bad last week and half of this week but I don't care, I am going anyway.... pay my dues and start a new. I have a brand new motivation and determination and I can do this.
I feel smaller today. I love that skinny feeling. I have been around 295ish since May. It's now July. Time to move into the 280's - Stop making excuses. I want need this BAD... so it's time to put my NEED before my WANT..... I may WANT food, but I NEED to be healthy and thinner so I can have a baby and live longer, and feel better about myself. I have spent 98.9 % of my life at this weight and damn what a struggle it is... but God says I am MORE than a CONQUEROR, and I can do ALL things thru CHRIST whom strengthens me. Time to have a KICK ASS day tomorrow. - Going on a bike ride and then tomorrow for dinner, going to Jimmie Johns and taking it to the park to listen to a band and have dinner. May walk around the park before or after concert. Going to clean house tomorrow, and clean out sewing room. Time to get my list of things crossed off.
I can do this!!!!

A New Day!
Okay! Okay! Okay! Without the expection of exercise, I took the week off from Weight Watchers. I needed a break. To avoid a long burn out.... I had to stop tracking, counting and worrying about weight loss.
- Break is officially over. I started my day with a walk, and I planned my menu's for the week.
Tonight we will be BBQ'ing Buffalo chicken Burgers... I will take chicken breast's and pound them, marinate in buffalo wing sauce... and BBQ, baste with sauce, have on a sand which thin, with lettuce, tomato and blue cheese on a sandwich thin. I haven't decided on a veggie yet. Monday I am trying a new recipe, buttermilk marinade with fresh herbs for chicken kabobs, Tuesday will be Taco's and instead of a flour tortilla for me, I am going to have a Taco Salad, and incorporate my Southwestern Bean Salad in there. It's healthy but filling. Wednesday I am doing Pork Chops on the BBQ and making a Whole Wheat Penne Pasta with Fresh Summer Veggies... Thursday, I will do a tortilla crusted Tilapia and a Summer Veggie Quina Salad.
I am going to drink 100 oz of water everyday. I have not reached this goal once since not working. I also will work out for two hours a day. Even if I have to split it up. I will walk or bike, do zumba, weights and Pilate's.
I have to get over this little hurdle and start pushing forward and finish this.
I am blessed with a bowl full of friends that cheer me on and want to see me do this for myself, and health and my happiness. Thank you God for my bouquet of friends. I love them so much.
